21 May 2009 (Thursday): Official Opening of EEH.

What you will study?

Physics is a branch of Science that attempts to understand the natural world around us – from the very large, such as the solar system, to the very small, such as an atom. The laws of Physics are expressed precisely in the language of Mathematics for example, the famous equation by Einstein, E = mc2. Do you know that this equation can explain how we can get lots of energy from just a very small amount of matter or mass?

The chapters that you will be studying in upper Secondary are classified into major topics such as General Physics, Thermal Physics, Light, Waves and Sound, Electricity and Magnetism. All these topics are related to two main idea: matter and energy.

The current knowledge of Physics is the result of many great scientists who have discovered theories about matter and energy by doing experiments. To get reliable results in experiments, scientists make accurate measurements when doing them. Similarly, when you do experiments in Physics, you are learning how to be as precise and accurate in your measurements as a scientist! You will have fun doing them.

Career Prospects with a Physics training

Have you thought about what your career will be when you leave school? Physics is one of the most important qualification for many great careers. Below are some examples:

  • Astronomer
  • Biophysicist
  • Civil Engineer
  • Defence Scientist
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineer
  • Geophysicist
  • Nuclear Scientist
  • Researcher in new frontiers involving Physics e.g. nanotechnology
  • Space Scientist
